In the present article contemporary international legal acts on protection of religious minorities rights are analyzed. It is shown that despite the fact that at the doctrinal level this problem started to developed in international law since the XIX century, only with creation of the United Nations universal international standards on the above subject were adopted. Influence of international legal acts on the modern understanding of church-state relations is revealed. Legislation of various countries on protection of the rights of religious minorities and its compliance with international legal acts are analyzed. Importance of religious factor on the maintenance of international peace and security at the present stage is shown. Also it was found and presented hat today the vast majority of conflict situations and direct armed conflicts in one way or another are due to the complex issues related to ethnic and religious minorities.
